EATAPETA Dinner Gathering

March 16th, 2006

Last night, SnoopyTheGoon of Simply Jews and I broke bread and devoured spareribs and chicken at Memphis Championship Barbecue. It was my first visit to the Rainbow Blvd. location, and the crew there didn’t disappoint. As always with a Memphis dinner, portions were abundant, and leftovers were taken home for another meal.

Photos from last night are still on my cell phone; I’ll download them for the EATAPETA gallery as soon as I can get the Bluetooth hub to play nice.

Earlier yesterday, I had a Chicken Caeser burrito from Taco Bell for lunch. Not too shabby either.

So, what animal did you eat for PETA yesterday

Update: SnoopyTheGoon has an in-depth report of Wednesday night’s repast. It was great meeting him in person and I hope to do so again.

Update 2 (3/23): After some Bluetooth wrangling and a software installation later, I was able to procure the photos from my cell phone. Laurence Simon has them posted on his site.

I drank cow milk instead of soy and had a subway club sandwich for lunch. So, let’s see, that means I ate cow, turkey, and pig, all on a six-inch wheat bun, as well as drinking some of perhaps the same cow. First meat I’ve eaten for a while, but good for the cause. Besides, I haven’t shied away from meat completely, nor have I cut back on it for the same reasons that the PETAssholes preach about. See, I had a blood pressure reading of 139/101 about two months ago. That scared the sh*t out of me. Changing my diet and getting off my ass to run again brought those numbers down to 126/87. So I have maintained the process of gradually eliminating almost all meat from my diet, as well as salt and refined sugar. My grandmother has been taking heart meds since she was my age (29, as you know). I ain’t going out like that. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, mate, but I wanted to be sure to make the distinction between those of us who go vegetarian for health reasons and the wackos who do it to be self-righteous idiots. PETA’s idea of vegetarianism/veganism is fundamentalism. I have no use for that.

Those morons need to find something better to do and mind their own business.
