Moving to New Digs

June 22nd, 2009

The blog is being migrated to a new host and will be in dry dock for a while. Thanks for your patience and patronage.

Update: We’ve moved, and are now running at top speed on Bluehost. Everything appears to be working so far…

Thank You, Barack Obama

May 31st, 2009

Many on the left (and a few on the right) say we all should thank our lucky stars for President Obama and the “change” he has brought to our nation and the world.

While words fail me, a fellow citizen has mustered the courage and fortitude to pen a letter of gratitude:

Mr. President,

You have given hope to the citizens of the United States as well as the world. With this historic election, you have shown that in America anything can be possible. Now that we have moved past the first 100 days, we can get a picture of your vision for our Country. We can see what you promised us in your message of change.

Thank you for putting Immigration Reform on your to-do list. I understand with the current economical situation that securing our boarders and deporting Illegal Immigrants cannot be at the forefront of items to take care of, especially with unemployment increasing. Your proposed stance of bringing illegal immigrants into the legal system by recognizing that they violated the law, and imposing fines and other penalties to fit the offense will surely deter any future lawlessness. Besides with GM moving $1 billion in their government financial aid to their Brazil operations, maybe the illegal immigrants will follow. I am sure that when the time comes you will again call on advisors to break out in to focus groups and come up with solutions.

Thank you for your work on the job market. You said that the recovery plan will save or create about 3.5 million jobs. But I must inquire, how do you quantify which jobs were not lost? The National Unemployment Rate is now about 8.9%. 539,000 jobs were lost in April while 663,000 jobs were lost in March. But I must inquire, are you holding the big savings for November Sweeps?

Thank you for bringing a new light of focus on the National Debt. On the campaign trail, you said that President Bush was practicing “reckless” economic policies that are “mortgaging our children’s future on a mountain of debt.” Well, the deficit has changed. It Increased. In 2004, President Bush set a budget with a record $521 billion dollars in deficit. Your estimates for the 2010 budget call for nearly $1.2 trillion in new deficit. Which will actually be down from the CBO estimates of $1.8 trillion gap this year. Now, that’s change we can not only believe in but that we can also see.

Thank you for working on foreign relations. You sought to bring a changed world view of United States. You have reached out to nations that we have not been on the best of terms with to improve their perception of us. This has apparently already begun to work. Now countries like Iran and North Korea are no longer concerned about US involvement in their actions. In fact, Iran is sending warships in to international waters, while North Korea is testing their long range missiles. Without you, this would not have been possible.

Thank you for acting swiftly in your judgment. Jimmy Carter took a little over three years to create the image of the U.S. as a confused and soft power, you have managed to do that in your first 100 days. I understand the necessity to act urgently on important matters, a five day waiting period should only apply to handguns not to laws. After all, I am sure that you thoroughly review every bill and remove all pork before signing them. I am also sure that the American people can feel safe from special interest groups. On Jan. 1 there were 4,611 political action committees, 9 percent more than the 4,234 PACs a year earlier. But with your promise of reducing the role of lobbyists, we can rest assured that they will not be in the Halls of Congress trying to influence decisions since your lifting the ban on former registered lobbyists working in the administration.

However with your previous experience in community affairs, I am certain that we are headed in a direction. I look forward to long lines at the gas pump, doctors office, and unemployment office. I can tell my grandchildren about how there were 50 States until the “Great Unifier” came along and they separated.

Thank you for bringing Change,

Memorial Day 2009

May 25th, 2009

Freedom is not free.

Today, we remember our fallen heroes whose ultimate sacrifice paid the price to keep what we often take for granted.

Give thanks to those who gave all for our country. May they never be forgotten.

Sometimes, In Order to Move Ahead…

May 6th, 2009

…One has to take A Bold Step Back.

A local resident outlines his ideas. An excerpt:

So much of the country has become addicted to the government teat. The federal government was not created to ‘take care’ of us. It was founded to protect us from outside harm, to regulate interstate commerce and a very few other tasks. But to serve their own interests, the people that have been getting elected year after year have been ‘feeding’ us…providing jobs, social programs — all with the objective to keep us voting for them.

Even a crack addict needs to recognize the problem before they can make a move to recover. WAKE UP AMERICA!!! We have a problem!

Just Say KNOW

May 5th, 2009

Big Hollywood contributor Gary Graham offers a resolute response to those content to brand the Republican Party as “the party of no”.

Why? Because we say NO to socialism? NO to racism? NO to weak foreign policy footing, kowtowing to despotic world leaders? Because we say NO to socialized medicine? NO to fomenting class-warfare, NO to raising taxes on the affluent? NO to killing babies in the womb, NO to redefining traditional marriage? NO to calling returning veterans extremist nut-jobs to be placed on a watch-list? NO to thinking we can spend and tax our way back to prosperity by saddling our grandkids with a Mt. Everest sized debt?

Okay…maybe they’re right; maybe we are the party of NO. But I’d like to offer a slight amendment to that moniker… :

We are the Party of ‘Know‘.

We know the principles upon which this country was founded. The principles you Lefties are always dragging through the mud. Little things like individual liberty. And respecting the flag. And love of God and country. And respect for our fighting troops. And smaller, limited government. And a dedication to our international autonomy. And the belief in peace through strength. Trust, but verify. Rugged individualism and personal responsibility.

Damn the touchy-feely “listening tours” and other forms of navel-gazing from those who think the Republicans should be more like Democrats. Michael Steele, GOP leadership in Congress, and regional/local GOP committees should drop whatever they’re doing RIGHT now and read Graham’s post. Then they should take that baton and run with it (and if necessary, knock some sense into people with it). Let it be the “brand” that sets the Republican party apart from the REAL party of no.

And to those reading this post who feel the same way as I do, share the link with others.

Standing Up For America

May 2nd, 2009

At a meeting with Stanford University students, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was confronted by left-wing learners with “tough” questions. She stood her ground and replied back with tougher and forthright answers.

And the students actually LEARNED something from the seasoned professor.

My favorite quote from the video. “Do your homework first.” May our current leadership in Washington do likewise!

Three Abandoned Americans

April 30th, 2009

While President Obama celebrated his first 100 days in office, there was no celebrating amongst the relatives of three American journalists — all women of color — being held hostage by the terrorist regimes of Iran and North Korea. Tammy Bruce explains:

When you abandon Americans held by terrorists, and then reward terrorists who trained with Al Qaeda, some might argue it’s more than priorities that are screwed-up in the White House.

So, why has the Obama administration allowed these kidnappings of [Roxana] Saberi, [Laura] Ling and [Euna] Lee to stand? The hostage-taking of these women is no different than the kidnapping of the Maersk Alabama’s Captain Phillips by terrorists on the high seas. Obama’s mob has made pathetic noise about Saberi’s kidnapping, noting Obama was “disappointed” when Iran announced they had found her guilty of a sham crime by a sham trial.

The Norks also plan to “try” Ling and Lee in kangaroo court, as NOBODY in the Obama administration dares to lift a finger in protest.

Joe Biden was right: President Obama is being tested, and he is willfully failing the country. I wouldn’t trust him as much as to make a fist to defend the lives of his own two children.

Pray for the safety of Roxana Saberi, Laura Ling, and Euna Lee. May God deliver them from evil, given the harsh reality that Obama doesn’t give a damn about them, let alone the rest of us.

100 Days, 100 Mistakes

April 29th, 2009

To celebrate it all, President Obama staged a bloviating session, where he invited the press to watch.

Earlier in the day, he insulted you and me for exercising our First Amendment rights by engaging in peaceful, non-violent protest over the wasteful deficit spending and looming tax hikes that he and other Capitol legislators are shoving down our throats.

As for the 100 mistakes (and counting), they’re listed here.

On a lighter note, the wheels on the ZoBama bus go ’round and ’round…

Donkey Takes Off Elephant Costume

April 28th, 2009

A lot of people are in a tizzy over Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter switching his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat. However, I’m not.

Specter has always been a self-serving politician who enjoys the perks and power of elected office. Prior to his becoming a Republican back in 1966, he was a Democrat. Back then, he switched parties in order to win an election. Even as a Republican, he has been more of a Fifth Column than a principled statesman, running with an “R” next to his name in order to stay in office, and after each election, taking a knife to fellow Rs — and plunging it deep into the backs of conservatives in hopes of doing the most damage possible.

When he voted with his previous party to push through a mountain of debt disguised as “stimulus”, it was the last straw for conservatives, who rightfully found a challenger in Pat Toomey to run against him in the upcoming 2010 primary. Seeing that he would be defeated, and being unwilling to not seek another senate term, he took the traitor’s route of switching parties for his own convenience.

Today, his fellow Democrats welcomed him back home. Soon they will have him drinking the Kool-Aid in no time.

Rather than see this as a defeat, the Republicans should see this as an opportunity to return to its conservative roots, which defined the GOP as the party of liberty in contrast to the Democrats becoming the party of tyranny. The clock is ticking, and time’s too short to cry over the loss of a jackass in elephant’s clothing. Voters will pick principles over phonies — and right now, conservative voters want the GOP to stand for something instead of falling for anything in a futile effort to be all things to all people.

May the door hit Arlen Specter in the ass on the way out.

Speaking of Torture…

April 26th, 2009

A retired Marine spills the beans:

My fellow veterans please forgive me. But I must purge my soul. I only ask that you reserve judgment until you read all of if. I only want peace for all and a world free of torture.

What I saw in the military was much worse than water boarding. The prisoners were taken to a 12 foot deep pool. Feet weighted they were forced into the pool. Those who hesitated, were moved onto a plank high above the pool and forced off. They were to stay in this deep water for over an hour feet weighted and in full clothing. Those who touched the side of the pool had their fingers stepped on by angry guards. Not enough to break their fingers as that would reveal this terrible secret but just enough to inflect severe pain without detectable injury. The guards knew their craft well. Like water boarding, the prisoners were not allowed to drown. No, that would expose the cover-up.

It gets worse! I must tell all! They were then taken to a wooden building far from the main complex. A lantern like device burned in the middle of the building. It gave off a horrible gas. The prisoners were forced to run around the lantern without the benefit of the gas masks worn by the guards and sing in their native language their country’s patriotic songs. I saw them with my own eyes as they were finally released from the windowless building: eyes red, mucus flowing uncontrollably from their mouths and noses. Some looked near death. A spec of humanity prevailed as they were allowed to recover for several minutes before being taken to the bleachers.

The prisoners were taken to the bleachers. I think there were about one hundred of them. They were not restrained, no that would blow this horrible trick. The bleachers were located in a bug infested marsh. Those prisoners who moved their hands in any effort to ward of the flying bugs were severely punished. Mockingly, the guards in the native language of the prisoners said that “their bugs had to eat too.” The guard threw a dud hand grenade into the helpless group. He laughed as they scattered in terror. The prisoners were regathered and prepared for more.

I saw one prisoner taken out of out of line in just his shorts which were on backwards. Horrible sexual innuendos and insults were directed at him. I saw a tear roll down his cheek.

The prisoners were United States Marine recruits. [T]he “torture” described above was part of our training. The guards were drill instructors. The above is why we shake our heads in disbelief when water-boarding, bugs, and loud music are described as torture by the main stream press.

The above prepared us for combat so that fair-weather pacifists can stand on our street corners only in the best of weather. God forbid, they should be out in the cold or even worse the rain as that would resemble water-boarding.
