Gore’s Own ‘Inconvenient Truth’

February 26th, 2007

Proof that the “global warming” BS is nothing but feel-good hot air from the left, courtesy of the Tennesee Center for Policy Research:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

During his acceptance speech for the so-called documentary, director Davis Guggenheim said, “I made this movie for my children. We all did. And we did so because we were moved to act by this man… all of us were inspired by his fight for 30 years to tell his truth to all of us.”

The truth that Gore is a hypocrite?

We didn’t need a gratuitous Hollywood flick to tell us that.

And as for “the children”, talk radio commentator Jerry Doyle noted during his show today that nobody made mention of the children who are starving to death in totalitarian countries like Zimbabwe.

I guess it’s far easier for Hollywood to save the planet than actually doing something tangible to save suffering kids…

Everybody Hates Communism

January 3rd, 2007

I found this rare gem of a letter in today’s R-J:

Lawmakers always want more money

To the editor:

I consider myself to be very liberal. Some might even say that I am a bit socialist. But Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen’s proposal to have the state seize funds from unused, expired gift cards is communism — or more likely outright theft (Dec. 25 Review-Journal).

Whatever the assemblyman wants to use the unused gift card money for, it’s wrong. Even if it’s for cancer research or feeding the hungry, I don’t see how Nevada government can take this money from businesses or the public.

If I buy a sweater and I don’t use it, the government shouldn’t be able to come in and take it from me and give it to someone less fortunate. It’s not the best thing, me having a perfectly good sweater just sitting in my closet, but it’s my choice.

How are gift cards different? I thought governments were going after retailers for having expiration dates on gift cards and service fees. If so, then let’s go after retailers who are making a killing on unused gift cards. But don’t make the situation worse by commandeering private property, especially when Nevada has a budget surplus.

This is the worst thing I’ve heard in a long time. Why doesn’t the Legislature do a better job of managing what they have and weed out crooks in their own midst instead of trying to take more from the public?

HENDERSON

Run for your life, Tahirih! Kihuen and the Confiscation Cops of Nevada’s state assembly (aka the Democrats) might come after you. To them, everything belongs to the state!

Cindy Sheehan: Traitor

January 25th, 2006

We now know where her loyalties lie — in bed with Hugo Chavez:

Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela’s leftist President Hugo Chavez.“I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling,” said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush’s ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week.

Sheehan was among more than 10,000 people from across the Americas who took to the streets of the Venezuelan capital Tuesday in an anti-war protest that launched the six-day Caracas World Social Forum (WSF).

My government should not meddle anywhere, the “peace mom” told AFP during the march, which was marked by anti-Bush slogans. [...]

Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, said she would remain in Caracas until the WSF concludes on Sunday, and would address participants on several occasions.

She said Venezuela’s foreign ministry sponsored her visit (emphasis added).

That tears it.

The woman is a traitor in the truest sense of the term. Her son, had he not died serving his country with honor, would have disowned her — as her immediate family already have.

It’s time for those who are fed up with self-hating Americans like Sheehan to put their feet down. If Venezuela is really all that and a bag of chips to Sheehan and her ilk, why aren’t they moving there in droves? Surely their new bestest friend in the world will take them in without hesitation!

Enjoy your weekend tryst with your new sugar daddy, Cindy — and DON’T come back.

Update: Rob Port at Say Anything nails it:

Opposing President Bush and his policies is one thing. Taking sides against your own government with a non-friendly foreign government is quite another.

“It is disgusting for a human to sit and watch another human die.”

Ironically, he had no problem watching his murder victims die 26 years ago…

At last, from an actual Katrina survivor, the truth comes out.

Update: Madea takes on the MSM…

All marriage is same sex marriage…the same sex, over and over and over again. It’s a long tedious meal with dessert at the beginning.

Hitting The Nail On The Head

From Michele:

It seems there are an awful lot of people out there who think that one must join a party and then subscribe to every single idea put out by that party. Toe the party line, so to speak.

People who do that are not called Republicans or Democrats or Greens. They are called sheep.

I do not say baaaaaaa.

Spot on.

Oh. No. He. Didn’t.

Food For Thought

“Every man … should periodically be compelled to listen to opinions which are infuriating to him. To hear nothing but what is pleasing to one is to make a pillow of the mind.”
– St. John Ervine

Believe it or not, readers, I strive to adhere to the above every day.

So much for that “echo-chamber of thought” nonsense…
