My name is Darmon C. Thornton.
I was born in Southern California, and spent my childhood and youth in South Central Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.
I graduated from Rialto’s Eisenhower High School in 1986.
I earned my undergraduate degree from California State University at Fresno in 1992.
After spending 31 years in California, I moved to Nevada in 1999. I currently live in suburban Las Vegas with a 30-year mortgage.
I work in information technology, where my career has taken me from user support to network design.
After years of driving cramped compact cars, I (once again) drive a sport/utility vehicle (with a fuel-saving engine, thank you). I also like to enjoy a good steak or chop every now and then.
I’m a gun owner, a regular shooter, and a card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association. “Gun control” to me means handling firearms safely, going to the range for practice on a regular basis, mastering the fundamentals of marksmanship, and ultimately hitting your target with your best aim. I believe the Second Amendment says what it means and means what it says.
I’m amazed by those who claim to support the entire Bill of Rights, yet they want to do away with parts of the Bill they don’t like. It’s an all-or-nothing package, people!
I don’t refer to myself as an African-American. I am an American. Period. I am of African descent, but America is my birthplace and my home.
I believe with education and hard work, you can succeed. I refuse to be a victim; I am a survivor.
Politically, I am a small-L libertarian. I support classical liberalism with fiscal conservatism. I used to be a far-left Democrat. Then came September 11, 2001 and its aftermath. Leftism reared its ugly head of hate and bigotry, which forced me to open my eyes. I no longer wanted any part of it. I also feel that the Democratic party is headed into irrelevance as its soul continues to be consumed by hatred and Marxism.
Some of my black peers have branded me as a “sellout” for not thinking the way self-appointed leaders want me to think and refusing to submit myself to separatist/collectivist thought. Those who don’t like my opinions can call the Law Offices of Tuff & Schitt. As far as I know, being black isn’t synonymous with being assimilated by the Borg Collective.
I am an individual FIRST. I believe if you are not allowed to think for yourself, you are not free.
I’m a reader of science fiction, fantasy, comic books, biographies, history, current events, and politics. I also enjoy off-roading, traveling, and socializing with friends.
I’m a fan of House M.D., The Sopranos, 24, and Adult Swim, in addition to a lot of other popular culture.
I like useful gadgets and assorted technologies. If it’s state-of-the-art and cutting-edge, I’m all over it.
Every now and then, I enjoy a good game of dominoes. That is, if I can find some other good bone players in town.
My musical tastes range from classic R&B to classical music. I’m also an avid hunter and collector of lost soul oldies.
I know I’m a good cook. No one has ever been rushed to the emergency room as a result of my cooking.
My life is still a work in progress; this page may be updated from time to time.
