Let’s Get Rid Of Harry

Our “esteemed” senior U.S. Senator Harry Reid used to fight against the Chicago-led mob that once ruled the Las Vegas Strip. Now, he has become one of them — and used his new-found Chicago influence to threaten the advertising director and the owners of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

R-J publisher Sherman Frederick comments:

On Wednesday, before he addressed a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Reid joined the chamber’s board members for a meet-’n'-greet and a photo. One of the last in line was the Review-Journal’s director of advertising, Bob Brown, a hard-working Nevadan who toils every day on behalf of advertisers. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal.

Yet, as Bob shook hands with our senior U.S. senator in what should have been nothing but a gracious business setting, Reid said: “I hope you go out of business.”

Later, in his public speech, Reid said he wanted to let everyone know that he wants the Review-Journal to continue selling advertising because the Las Vegas Sun is delivered inside the Review-Journal.

Such behavior cannot go unchallenged.

You could call Reid’s remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.

But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid’s remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was — a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he’s shaking them down. [emphasis added]

Enough is enough. It’s time to throw Harry Mason Reid out of office once and for all. This constituent will do his part, to the best of his physical and fiscal abilities make sure that event takes place come November 2010.

For all of his “accomplishments”, Nevada’s unemployment rate is at an all-time high of 13%. Nevadans from all walks of life are struggling to make ends meet, keep their roofs over their heads, and provide for their familes while Harry Two-Face plays his “hardscrabble, up-from-poverty, Nevada-proud” act to the voters, only to turn around and knife them in the back and sell out the best interest of the state to activist thugs who don’t give a damn about Nevada residents. I’m sick and tired of him and his ilk.

It’s high time that all Nevada voters throw that dirty, rotten slimeball in the trash can and haul him off to the waste dump of defeat. Anything less that will be unacceptable.

Ted Kennedy: A Sobering Look Back

The NRO editors penned a brutally honest, yet civil post-mortem retrospective on the late U.S. Senator from Massachusetts:

As a member of the modern American aristocracy, Senator Kennedy believed that he had a mandate to use his power to do good for the least well-off among us, and that cast of mind is, at its core, admirable. Among the better achievements of his life, Kennedy lent moral support to important civil-rights and voting-rights legislation. Unhappily, he mistook power for wisdom, and he very often left things worse than he had found them. He meddled in Northern Ireland to no good end, contributed mightily to the politicization of the federal courts, sought to regulate and restrict political speech, appeased the Soviets, contributed to the American defeat in Vietnam, and attempted to apply the Vietnam template to Iraq. A child of privilege, he worked energetically to deny school-choice scholarships to poor black children in Washington, D.C. His ideas on taxes, immigration, and social welfare were reliably counterproductive.

Also, Chappaquiddick, Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, et. al. do not go ignored. RTWT.

That 9th Commandment Thing

In an attempt to compare his battle for socialized medicine with the historic civil rights movement, President Obama accused his critics of “bearing false witness” about his true intentions as he gave his sales pitch to religious leaders.

Given that Obama has repeatedly lied about his agenda to force socialized medicine down the throats of the American people time, time, and time again, he is not without sin in such regard, and should refrain from casting stones at his critics.

Secondly, Obama is actually preaching to the choir, given that the “coalition of religious groups” is actually a left-wing network of “faith-based” community organizers whose founders were trained in the teachings of Marxist pharisee Saul Alinsky as opposed to taking up the cause of the converted Christian apostle formerly known as Saul of Tarsus.

In promoting the big lie that is currently repackaged as “health insurance reform”, Obama is a false prophet. The “unwashed”, “uninformed” multitudes are rejecting the message and responding with a resounding “NO!” like fire shut up in Jeremiah’s bones (no relation to the latter-day Jeremiah Wright, whose hate-filled sermons left quite an impression on the president).

The fish and loaves that are being fed to those who hunger for total government control over their lives are quite fishy indeed.

Standing With Kenneth Gladney

As many of you know, St. Louis resident Kenneth Gladney was recently assaulted by union thugs (one of them an ordained minister, no less) outside a town hall forum on the proposed health care power-grab.

Today, members of MoveOnUp, an online forum of black conservatives, will be rallying holding a press conference outside the St. Louis NAACP headquarters, demanding that the organization take off their partisan blinders and speak out against acts of violence that are currently being condoned by labor unions and politicians in order to ramrod their socialist agendas. Although I’m unable to attend, I propose a challange to all who believe in individual liberty, regardless what one’s political leanings might be.

Kenneth Gladney was beaten by a goon masquerading as a preacher of the gospel for merely selling Gadsden flags (the historical battle standard from the Revolutionary War best know for the words “Don’t tread on me”). As a fitting tribute of support to a man who believes in liberty and was wrongly attacked for his free expression thereof, I call on others to purchase and display the Gadsden flag with pride and solidarity. Whether it be a full-sized banner, a bumper sticker, a lapel pin, or a yard sign, display it with resolute boldness. Send a message to the Service Employees International Union and other hostile statist factions that we, as Americans, will not be intimidated by thug activity, and that we will stand up and defend our Constitutional rights as citizens of a free republic.

If you’re in the St. Louis area, do whatever you can to buy your Gadsden flag gear from Kenneth Gladney himself — and support the spirit of free enterprise.

Tell the thugs not to tread on us.

“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a Toot.”

The Black Sphere’s Kevin Jackson comments on the looming power grab that is ObamaCare — and highlights some splinters in the Trojan horse itself:

Using his grandmother [the late Madelyn "Toot" Dunham] as an example, Obama squirmed while explaining that [Toot] likely should not have had her hip replaced, since she was dying of cancer and was 86 years old. Here was his comment:

“I don’t know how much that hip replacement cost,” Obama said in the interview. “I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement just because she’s my grandmother.”

“That’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues,” he said in the April 14 interview. “The chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here.”

There is no hidden message here, as the message is crystal clear. Sometimes Obama is worse than Biden in revealing the truth, though he is sensitive to the idea not throwing [Toot] from the train. What he’s not saying is he didn’t want her on the train to begin with!

Obama would have preferred [Toot] take painkillers for three weeks, instead of have that expensive hip replacement. After all, she died only a few weeks later. But what if [Toot] had lived another year or two? Should she be kept in a drug-induced stupor or should [Toot] become Soylent Green? Only the government counselors would know for sure…

I would submit that Obama never truly loved or cared about the woman who literally raised him, gave him shelter, and jumped through hoops to give him an education — only to dismiss her for political expedience as “a typical white person”, but I digress. All I know is that I’d be damned if I threw my own mother under the bus like he did.

BTW, if you’re not familiar with the Soylent Green reference, here’s a brief primer on how end-of-life care might be handled as depicted in the 1973 film:

I hope ObamaCare fails.

Here’s What They Think About You

Some members of Congress and the U.S. Senate have hosted town hall forums regarding the government health care proposals being rammed down our throats by the Obama Administration. While many of the forums have been dismissed by the mainstream media as hostile, angry mob gatherings, the following video sums up the collective attitude of those elected to represent us:

This is not as much as an attack on Sheila Jackson Lee as it is an example of blatant arrogance being displayed by all politicians, Democrat or Republican, who have forgotten who they work for.

If it were either you or me who displayed a cavalier attitude toward an employer while on the job, an immediate firing would be in order.

It’s time for all Americans to put politicians back in their place as elected public servants — not the elitist barons who see their constituents as serfs. Whether health care “reform” passes or fails (and I hope it fails), it’s time to start firing some people on November 2, 2010 and November 6, 2012 — starting with snobs like Jackson Lee and finishing it with your local representatives and/or senators.

As for me and my backyard, both Dina Titus and Harry Reid are on notice.

It’s time to take our country back.

Update (8/17): Tracy Miller, the woman who was rudely ignored by Jackson Lee, responds:

Show ‘em who’s boss.

Journalists Freed

Great news:

Bill Clinton’s spokesman says the former president has left North Korea with two American journalists who had been held hostage.

Matt McKenna said late Tuesday that Clinton has “safely left North Korea with Laura Ling and Euna Lee.” He said they’re flying to Los Angeles, where the journalists will be reunited with their families.

The White House is not commenting the trip.

Although the Obama White House had to send a former president to do the job the current president was elected to do (as well as the spouse of said former president was confirmed by Congress to take the initiative), I’m thankful that Ling and Lee were freed by their captors and are now homeward bound. Former President Clinton deserves credit where credit is due for putting himself on the line.

Al Gore, the employer of Ling and Lee through his co-ownership of Current TV, should also give thanks that no harm came upon them.
