No Shot Too Cheap

The honeymoon is over according to the newly-themed White House website:

President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.

Say whatever you will about the President’s predecessor; at least he never used whitehouse.gov to attack his political opponents or those who preceded him in office. If President Obama had any respect for the Presidency and the people’s house that he now occupies, he would have that statement removed and pledge not to use the website as an extension of a political campaign that has already ended.

So much for renewal and reconciliation.

By the way, it was former President George W. Bush who proactively warned state and local officials to take action before Hurricane Katrina struck land, and accepted responsibility for failures on part of the federal government — while state and civic leaders in Louisiana and New Orleans at the time whined and passed the buck. However, those facts have already been argued repeatedly.
