VP Debate: Palin vs. Biden

October 2nd, 2008

Been watching tonight’s veep show; you can follow my reactions on the Twitter widget to your left.

In summary, I felt it was a tie. Joe Biden didn’t pull any punches (though he hardly landed any either) and kept his gaffes to a minimum (though a condescending sigh on his part was reminiscent of Al Gore in the 2000 presidential debates). Sarah Palin was allowed to be herself tonight, and I felt that she connected well by speaking directly to the viewer by making it plain and keeping it real; campaign handlers, biased moderators, and MSM jockeys be damned. There were moments where she should’ve been more forceful in rebutting Biden’s rhetoric during the debate, but she rose to the occasion and didn’t take crap from Biden or Gwen Ifill for the most part.

John McCain and his campaign managers should take notes from tonight’s performance and let Sarah Palin be Sarah Palin. In order for the McCain/Palin ticket to win, she must maintain the strength, persuasion, and the ability to connect with everyday people from this moment forward until the polls close. Overcoaching and mollycoddling her will lead to the campaign’s failure.

In short, unleash the Barracuda! Let her kick ass, chew gum, and take names! America’s future depends upon it.
