Some People Never Learn

July 9th, 2008

Locally, that goes for boneheaded parents who leave their kids and pets in cars exposed to triple-digit heat — in light of the Jason Rimer case:

Seven children and two dogs were left alone in a locked hot van. Their parents face child endangerment charges. Eyewitnesses say the parents were shopping in two stores near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana while their children, ages one to seven, were left in the sweltering heat.

The kids are fine, but doctors say they are lucky. In a matter of minutes, the temperature inside that van could have reached deadly levels. Luckily someone saw the kids and dialed 911, because if they hadn’t, the children may not have survived.

“There were two infants in diapers,” said delivery driver Jay Wahaab. “It’s incredible that people don’t think. You hear the warnings, you know.”

Police aren’t taking this lightly. First the father and then the mother were handcuffed and hauled off to jail.

NEVER LEAVE YOUR CHILD(REN) AND PETS UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE — OR ANYPLACE ELSE.
