Hezbollah kills 7 Israeli soldiers, captures 2 in fight along Lebanese border
The Israeli army on Wednesday said seven soldiers were killed in fighting with Hezbollah guerrillas after a cross-border raid in which the Lebanese group captured two other soldiers.
The army said three soldiers were killed in the initial raid, and four other soldiers were killed when their tank went over a landmine in southern Lebanon.
The tank was participating in a ground invasion aimed at rescuing the captured soldiers.
The army withheld news of the deaths for several hours while the soldiers’ families were notified.
Hezbollah wants a prisoner swap, but that’s not going to happen — as Israel doesn’t negotiate with terrorists; they fight them.
Meanwhile, the UN quickly condemned the aggressed, but not the aggressors.
I am afraid you are right and if so Lord help us. This is the holy war that they were waiting for. With our forces being over there this may lead to a potential escalation. Who side are those Iraqi’s on?
Demond
Yes, God help us all. If the Israelis declare war, sides will have to be chosen. Naturally, the U.S. would support Israel. But with our troops already busy in Iraq, I’m also worried about how we could engage in another conflict, God forbid.
Hamas and Hezbollah, with the blessings of Syria and Iran, deliberately planned the kidnappings in hopes of forcing Israel to engage in a prisoner swap (so the story goes). IMHO, it’s all part of their efforts to destroy Israel.
With Iraq, we already know that they’re a house divided, with the insurgency supporting their terrorist brethern.
No matter how you slice it, things aren’t looking very good. Let’s hope that Hamas and Hezbollah will blink — and soon.
Hi D.C.,
I hope it would not come to a full-blown war, as it is the goings-on will escalate for the next few days, at least this is what it looks like.
Meanwhile people are dying, and not all of them are terrorists, unfortunately.
“…people are dying, and not all of them are terrorists, unfortunately.”
‘Tis true, Snoop. Very true.
Thanks for the perspective, and stay safe.
I think people under estimate Israel. We don’t really need to choose sides on this, as Israel is perfectly capable of taking on a good portion of the middle east on their own.
The problem is that if Israel wants to go after Iran, they will probably want to come through Iraq. Iraq won’t allow that, and if they Israelis decide to come through anyway, guess who’s job it is to protect Iraqi soverignty?
