Of all the more deserving honorees out there, The users of BET.com name Louis Farrakhan as the website’s 2005 Person of the Year:
“An overwhelming percentage of our users agreed that Minister Farrakhan made the most positive impact on the Black community over the past year and chose him as the person most worthy to receive the honor of BET.com’s 2005 Person of the Year,” said Retha Hill, BET.com’s vice president for Content.
Well, given the young age demographic that BET targets, I’m not surprised. I can think of other notable blacks who made a difference in ’05 besides Farrakhan.
Then again, it could’ve been worse had the BET.com users chose “Tookie” Williams.
While on the topic of BET, I remember when the network once had quality programming that was worth watching instead of being the MTV copycat that it is today. Fortunately, there is a decent alternative called TVOne.

I thought New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin was much more deserving.
You’re kidding, right?
