Vicente Fox, Racist

May 16th, 2005

Over the weekend, Mexican President Vicente Fox made the following remark: “There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States.

Fox apologized somewhat for the comment. However, La Shawn Barber argued that an apology wasn’t necessary. I beg to differ.

Vicente Fox is a racist, but not based solely on one sound bite that reaped a whirlwind of condemnation (and rightfully so).

Fox harbors disdain for Mexicans of Indian heritage; instead of expanding Mexico’s middle class to all of its citizens and enacting much-needed economic and cultural reforms, he’d rather get rid of the “undesirables” by encouraging (and defending) illegal immigration into the United States. Notice that Mexico itself actually enforces its own immigration laws, compared to our own spineless government here.

By replacing Mexico’s current caste system with a free-market society, all Mexicans would have greater opportunities to thrive economically without the need to emigrate.

As for Fox’s racist remarks, I like Molotov’s suggestion:

Before illegal immigration, it was black folks who did these jobs and did them well. Ever more reason why the Congressional Black Caucus should stop missing in action and put its collective foot up the ass of Vicente Fox and illegal immigration in general, and stand up for black employment and against lawbreakers.

Amen, sister!
