Moderate Muslims: Stand Up

Kamal Nawash, president of Free Muslims Against Terrorism, comments:

Muslim-bashing. That’s the accusation many of my fellow Muslims now hurl at the various news outlets for their news stories about a Freedom House investigation that found extremist Islamic literature in some leading American mosques. This name-calling is unfortunate.

Since 1980, the Muslim world has experienced an enormous growth of religious fanaticism and extremism the likes of which Islam has not experienced in its 1,400 years. This movement continues to grow because of the spread of Saudi-created and funded Wahhabi Islam, a sect that used to number no more than one percent of all Muslims. But now because of money and technology, it has spread around the world.

Extremism is also growing because of an ideology called political Islam. The basis of political Islam is the rejection of secularism and the belief that the mosque and the state should be completely intertwined. Unfortunately, history has shown that when politics and religion are completely intertwined, disaster results.

Most importantly, extremism in the Muslim world continues to grow because most Muslims are unwilling to admit that we have a problem with extremism and support for terrorism. The response by Muslims to the Freedom House report is not the first time that the Muslim community resorted to denial and accusations of Muslim-bashing when presented with evidence of Muslim culpability.

  1. Now the Muslims in London fear backlash from Londoners. This is sad. Do these Muslims think Londoners are like Pakistanis or Nigerians Muslims or like arab Muslims? If these attacks happened in Pakistan in the name of Christ, all Muslims will justify killing Christians. Sometimes if the crime happened in the USA against a Muslim, the christians of Nigeria will pay the price. The Imams and Mullahs will encourage this.
How long will this injustice go on?
Treat us the way you like to be treated.
In the West, we allow Muslims to preach and teach, grow and prosper, but in their own countries minorities are not allowed to preach and teach, grow and prosper.

The sad thing is that moderate Muslims have no voice to defend minorities from injustice in Muslim countries. The moderate Muslims give a good image of Islam (a religion of peace) but when you visit a mosque all that you hear is violence- justified of course)

Dear brothers, I encourage you to speak out more strongly, because now there is a major question in people’s minds: your religion is either distorted by these terrorists or has distorted these human beings and made them terrorists.

Condemnation is not enough. Reform is needed beginning with the education of Mullah and Imams and all Muslim clergy.

I also encourage all Moderate Muslims to read the Quran and ask yourself this question: What does this God want? What is His message? What good news is bringing to our world? Why this… why that…

    I wish you well
