Moved.

May 8th, 2004

There’s still a lot of items left to unpack and settle into the new digs, but much of the hard work is done for now.

Be sure to update your blog links to reflect http://www.dcthornton.com/. The redirect to the old URL is now switched off.

Finally, please let me know what you think of the design, features, etc. WordPress is still a new learning experience for me, even after running a test blog in the background for a while.

Off to bed I go.

Congrats on the move. How do you like this software? I am using pmachine on my Dark Planet Blog and like it a lot. I am sticking with Movable type on my main blog because I have moved too many times already.

My solution to my one big Movable Type beef (spam comments) has been resolved when I wrote a little app to clean them out when they appear. It seems the spammers have given up on me. Ha!

WordPress has a slight learning curve, but the setup and configuration were quite painless. Everything loads faster now, and the dynamic pages are a plus.

I had originally planned on waiting for MT 3.0, and had signed up for the beta. However, its continued dependency upon CGI scripting, static pages, and the complexity of TypeKey were the factors that led me to make the switch.

MT still has a lot of potential, but SixApart needs to move from CGI to PHP in order to make it happen.

The blue is really sleek-looking. Hope the tech stuff works out for you.

I really like what I see here, DC. I used Wordpress for a second, but with being so used to MT and then pulling down Earl’s (P6) MTClient, it’s been pretty stable.

MT 3.0 has been interesting so far in Beta mode. While there are some really interesting things going on (more with comments than anything else), I’m not sure how prevalent the changes are going to be in the next couple of months.

I’ve managed to be okay with the MT being CGI specific, even when I switched to PHP.

I have the Beta for 3.0 right now. Just say the word and I’ll point you to it.

Updated. Now say something worthy of me linking to. Serious. I’m starting to get desperate for news that isn’t about torture.

I just moved from MT to WP about a month ago, myself. It just… FEELS better. MT still kicks butt as far as community and support, but under the hood, I am enjoying WP more and more.

    Welcome to the fold, DC.

I agree. MT still has a lot going for it, including a strong support base.

The move to MT was not out of dislike, but the preference of a dynamic, PHP-based system to manage over 2000 entries.

I plan to continue using MT for future projects. While I do enjoy blogging, working with various blog systems is also a learning adventure for me, as I gain hands-on experience working with web platforms, coding, and design while I’m at it.
